Bandung’s Husein Sastranegara Airport (BDO, official website) is located in Northwest Bandung, about 4 km from the city center. The airport is situated in a difficult location surrounded by the mountains and has relatively limited services with narrow-body airplanes. However, all of Indonesia’s major airlines are present at Bandung Airport, offering frequent connections with most of Indonesia’s major cities (except Jakarta), with at least daily flights to 13 destinations including Surabaya (East Java), Semarang (Central Java), Medan (Sumatra), Makassar (Sulawesi), and Bali.
In addition to the wide range of domestic destinations, AirAsia connects Bandung with multiple daily flights to Malaysia (Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur) and Singapore. Also, Malindo Air has daily flights from/to Kuala Lumpur, and Silk Air five times weekly from/to Singapore.
There’s no metered taxi available from inside Bandung Airport, but most hotels provide a free airport transfer services. Online taxi service is available via smartphone apps: Go-Car (from Go-Jek app) or Grab (Android, iOS).
Jakarta’s Soekarno Hatta International Airport (CGK, official website) is only 125 km away (hence no flights between Bandung and Jakarta), or about 2.5 hours by bus/car via highway. Shuttle car service between Jakarta and Bandung is provided by CitiTrans. However, road transportation between Bandung and Jakarta often has significant traffic jam (even via highway). Careful travel time selection is recommended.
